Cross country successes continue
September 19, 2012
The hills of the Fighting Scots Invitational were no match for the men’s cross country team, as they earned another first-place title Saturday in Wooster.
The Eagles had runners in the top five spots, leaving them with only 15 points and a comfortable lead against competitors Ohio Wesleyan—who finished with 65 points—and Denison (82 points.)
Leading the way for the Eagles was junior Jake Sussman, who finished first in 26:10.37.
Sophomore Brian Baum was second with a time of 26:17.60 and senior Gary Haglund finished third in 26:24.26. Senior Colton Johnson grabbed the fourth-place finish and sophomore Isaac Potes was fifth.
The women’s team was third of six teams at the same meet, falling to Kenyon (45 points) and Denison (53.)
The ladies finished with 61 points and were led by senior Stephanie Stoffel with a fourth place finish. Freshman Mikaela Bush was the next best at tenth.
McKenzie Roth and Kylee Bernthisel also finished in the top 15.
While the teams have this weekend off, they are preparing for one of their biggest races of the season that will take place Sept. 29 in Cedarville at the All-Ohio Championships.
Almost every school in Ohio competes at the All-Ohio Championships and every division runs together.
This race will give both the men and women a good insight into what the rest of the season will look like, and what they need to improve upon before the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship in October.
