Ashland rocks GLIAC/GLVC Crossover

Ashland played three matches in the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover tournament last weekend, winning each match. The Eagles beat Indianapolis, Lewis and Missouri-St. Louis, improving their record to 16-4.
Ashland won its first match against No. 9 Indianapolis in a thrilling 3-2 victory Friday. The Greyhounds put up a good fight before the Eagles, led by Brittany Snider’s 27 kills, pulled out the victory.
Ashland lost the first set 20-25, but recovered to win the second and the third sets 25-21 and 25-22. The Greyhounds rallied to win the fourth set 22-25 before Ashland put the fifth set away 15-13.
Snider led the team in kills, but the offense was well balanced, with Baley Bernthisel and Kate Eckels recording double-digit kills—19 and 12, respectively.
Crystal Elliott set a season-high with 58 assists along with 10 digs and two block assists.
Ashland played a second match Friday, this one against Lewis University.
Lewis played well, but Ashland was able to win in four sets, 25-23, 25-20, 22-25, 27-25.
Snider led the offense again with 23 kills and 15 digs. Eckels recorded a double double with 19 kills and 10 digs.
Elliott had 45 assists in this victory, leading both teams.
Ashland came back on Saturday to beat the University of Missouri-St. Louis for the second time this season.
Just like the first match, the Eagles swept the match 3-0, with scores of 25-21, 25-15, and 25-17.
Ashland dominated the match, hitting .330 while holding the Tritons to a .129 team hitting percentage. Snider led the team in kills again with 14, while Eckels recorded 10 kills and 10 digs.
AU was listed among “Others receiving votes” in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association coaches’ poll.
The Eagles return to Kates Gymnasium next weekend for the first time in three weeks, hosting Northwood at 7 p.m. Friday and Hillsdale at 2 p.m. Sunday.
