Paralegal studies now an option for non-traditional students

Ashland University started offering a new paralegal major for non-traditional students in October.

The program is planned by the Center for Legal Studies in Colorado.

Ashland University decided to add this program to better accommodate non-traditional students.

Classes only meet on weekends and the purpose is to provide new opportunities to people who are interested in developing a new career.

“We are always looking for new and innovative ways to expand the services for adults,” Dwight McElfresh, dean of the Founders School of Continuing Education, said.

There are many different options for class style that students can choose from. They may take these classes face-to-face, online, or through a DVD.

If a non-traditional student would like to participate in face-to-face sessions, the university provides an opportunity for them to meet.

The resources and the instructor come from the Center for Legal Studies, but the student will receive an Ashland University certificate.

So far the program has started with five students and is expected to continue growing.

Some of the topics of study are legal terminology, documents, ethics and the litigation process, legal writing and legal research practices.
