Tech Crew and Campus Activities Board (CAB) brought singer-songwriter Andy Grammer alongside special guest Chris Wallace Oct. 27 at 9 p.m. in Redwood Hall.

CAB co-leader Marissa Uhrig said that booking Grammer was in response to student requests.

“Students are always asking for more concerts on campus, so this year, we got Andy Grammer,” she said. “And booked him a few months ago, when we first found out about his current tour.”

Grammer, a pop alternative artist, emerged in 2011 as one of the biggest success stories in the music business. Grammer is successful with his hit songs “Fine by Me” and “Keep Your Head Up.”

Sophomore Zoe Escandon said he was looking forward to the concert, especially since it was free to students.

“I [was] excited to see Grammer live here on campus,” he said. “I really enjoy his music, and the fact that the concert [was] free to students [made] it that much better.”

Andy Grammer has performed on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Live with Regis & Kelly, and has shared the stage with Taylor Swift and Colbie Caillat.

His first single “Keep Your Head Up” made him the first male pop star since 2003 to reach the Top 5 at Adult Pop Radio, and that single is now a certified Gold Record quickly reaching Platinum.

Sophomore Adam Gunselman attended the concert and said it was nice to have a known artist perform on campus.

“It’s really neat that a singer I hear on the radio regularly [came] to perform at our school,” he said.

“Fine By Me,” his follow-up single, has been greatly embraced by radio stations around the country. January was the beginning of his first headlining tour, which resulted in numerous sellouts.

Grammer is known for his rock/pop/soul mix and flowing vocal delivery.

The singer and musician began as a street performer in Santa Monica, Calif., but is now making 2012 a huge successful year.

Singer-songwriter Chris Wallace was guitarist for his previous band, “White Tie Affair” before going out on his own as a solo act and opening for Grammer throughout the country.

Freshman Kayla Culbertson went to the concert, her first on campus, and was satisfied with the performance.

“I’ve always wanted to see Andy Grammer and Chris Wallace live, so [it was very exciting],” she said.
