Print shop still open

By Halee Heironimus

The print shop was one of many aspects of Ashland University that were affected by the budget alignment, although it did not delete their title as “Printing Services.”

The Communications and Marketing department now manages all print and copy jobs. Unfortunately, the capacity of the on-campus services has been limited. Printing Services is only capable of completing high-speed color copy jobs, large format printing (ex. banners), and finishing (ex. binding and folding of brochures). All higher volume printing jobs (ex. business cards) will be transferred to vendors. The limited services are the result of selling the big press; it was not an economical instrument for the university to keep up with.

Printing Services recommends customers to bring their requests straight to them. They will manage the job and determine if it can be completed on campus. If not, Printing Services has a variety of commercial vendors lined up to complete high volume printing jobs.

In addition to the limited on-campus services, three staff members were affected due to the budget alignment. A graphic designer, administrative assistant, and the director of Printing Services were cut from the department. It was important for the staff to think differently and regroup.

Printing Services is now enrolled in the Management and Marketing department. Because the majority of print work starts in marketing, it makes sense to bring the two together. The internal community will be the first priority for Printing Services. They want to focus more on satisfying the core operations and needs of Ashland University.

Regardless of the changes and budget alignment, Printing Services ensures that they will still be able to meet the printing needs of their customers.
