New Safety Services policy

Do You Have Your Keys & ID? Did You Lock Your Door?
Safety Services constructed a campaign to ensure that students have their Eagle Card and room key present at all times. The biggest change in the policy is the new lockout fee.
Students will now be charged $5 per lockout.
Unlike previous years, students will now be charged right away without a warning. The charge is the policy across the board with both Safety and the Residence Life Staff.
The discussion of this campaign began back in 2011 when Safety had to complete over 100 lockouts by September. The issue created a challenge for Safety because staff was limited and usually occupied at the time of the lockout.
Lockouts are a common student mistake and have always been a challenge. Due to budget cuts and less staff, Safety Services and the ResLife Staff appreciate the help and cooperation of students.
“It is a responsible habit to create when living in a residence hall,” said Cat Geletka, Director of Residence Life.
Safety Services suggests the students to do the following when locked out:
1. Call your roommate. He/She may be closer than you think.
2. Look for an RA. Remember: On the weekdays, between 8am-9pm, RAs are students just like you. During non-duty hours, you’ll have to check by going door-to-door. RAs are on duty from 8pm to 7am, Sunday-Thursday and 9pm-7am Friday and Saturday.
3. If no RAs are in the building, call Safety Services at 419-207-5555. Prepare to be patient because you may have to wait until an officer or staff member is available to assist you.
4. If your roommate or an RA becomes available while you are waiting to be let in, please call Safety Services and let them know that you no longer need assistance. This helps the staff tremendously.
