New sorority on campus: Theta Phi Alpha joins AU’s Greek life
September 26, 2013
A new sisterhood named Theta Phi Alpha has joined the Ashland University Greek Life family.
This new sorority has made a huge statement on campus already by making the campus see blue, silver, and gold, their chapter’s colors on recruitment signs that can be seen in every building.
The new sorority has already started increasing in numbers after only a few months of becoming a new chapter on the campus.
“We are really excited to be here colonizing; finding founding sisters to bring a lot of new innovative ideas to the Greek community. We are all about philanthropy, sisterhood, leadership, and academics,” Leadership Consultant for Theta Phi Alpha Sarah Friedman said.
According to the Theta Phi Alpha website, the Theta Phi Alpha sorority, which was founded in 1912 at the University of Michigan, strives to “create close comradeship, to advance educational, social and philanthropic interests and leadership training; to encourage spiritual development and adherence to the highest moral standards; and to promote lifelong bonds of friendship.”
Theta Phi Alpha thought that Ashland University would be a perfect place to start a new sisterhood.
The other sororities on campus are also happy to see the new sorority grow and they hope that it will give more girls on campus an opportunity to be a part of a really special organization.
“I’m super excited for Theta Phi Alpha. I think they are going to do a great job and it’s another way for women at Ashland to be a part of something bigger than themselves. I hope more people will be excited to go Greek and more people will flourish in this community,” Vice President of Marketing in Alpha Phi Frankie Dicesare said.
This new sorority is different from the other organizations because they are passionate about making sure that everyone in their organization has a chance to make a difference. They do this by choosing a philanthropy that the girls are passionate about.
“I think the reason why we might be a little different than anyone else is because we give the new experience of making the sorority our own and especially the philanthropy not being a set thing we can change it up and do whatever our sisters feel they’re passionate about so we give everyone their each individual experience,” Theta Phi Alpha President Kaelyn Mead said.
The new sorority members had a very successful first formal recruitment and are confident that they have recruited girls that will be proud to be a part of a strong sisterhood that was built on tradition.
