Homecoming 5K Fun Run

Ashland University Recreational Services along with the Office of Alumni & Parent Relations team will be sponsoring the 3rd Annual Homecoming 5K Fun Run Saturday, October 12. Rec Services staff member Ashley Christman explains why it is important to be involved in the event.

“I would encourage student  participation because the Homecoming 5K Fun Run is a great opportunity to step outside the boundaries of the main campus and see the community this campus is a part of while meeting alumni and living by the motto of the Ashland University Recreational Services- Stay Active, Live Well.”

The event is open to students, staff, and alumni. All participants are encouraged to pre-register at any time before Saturday in the Rec Center.

The cost for registration is only $5, cash or check. Checks should be made payable to Ashland University. The first 100 registered participants will receive a free t-shirt along with another item so sign up quickly!

Other potential prizes are also available for those partaking in the 3.1 mile race.

All participants will have the opportunity to submit their name into a raffle for a variety of prizes. These prizes are not yet disclosed by those putting on the event. However, prizes given away at the Fun Run last year have been noted. Previously, giveaways have included AU cookies, mugs, Ashland apparel, gift cards, and more!

In addition, the top male and female winners will be recognized with a prize of their own.

Registration for the Homecoming 5K will begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning. The event will be lead with walkers and strollers starting at 9:30 a.m. Runners will follow not far behind with a 10:00 a.m. start time.

Two students already registered for the 5K Fun Run shared their reasoning for signing up.

“I wanted to run the 5K because I enjoy running and I like events where I can run with my friends and often meet new people too,” said junior Amber McDermott.

Rec Services customer service employee Molly Sullivan is equally as excited for the race.

“I am participating in the Homecoming 5K because it’s a great way to stay active and show school spirit during homecoming week.”

Last year there were 71 Fun Run participants.
