TKEs tug a tub to Kent State

Last year, the Tau Kappa Epsilon chapter at Ashland University started their own tradition known as the TKE Tub Tug. For this event, the chapter purchases a bathtub and pulls it a total of 70 miles to the Tau Kappa Epsilon chapter at Kent State University.

Vice President and Philanthropy Chair Tom Burford credited the event to a senior and said that after a rough patch, this event has become bigger than they ever thought possible.

“Cyrus Massoudi brought the idea to meeting one day, and we were all a bit confused, but he ran the even and it went so well we decided to make it one of our biggest events,” he said.

“It hasn’t changed much since then.”

This year, the chapter raised about $850, which is less than last year. Burford said he believes that is due to a new policy that only allowed for the members to fundraise for two days.

“This policy isn’t a problem,” he said. “We just weren’t used to having to market it with this time limit. We’re prepared for next year.”

However, this year the men sold T-shirts.

These 29 T-shirts gave an extra $200 to donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, the chapter’s philanthropy.

“The Alzheimer’s Association is one of TKE’s top priorities when it comes to philanthropy,” he said.

Each member of the TKE chapter participates in this event. It is set up in four-hour shifts with four members in each shift.

Although this event is only in its second year, the chapter hopes to continue it for years to come and is already in the planning stages.

“I hope everyone will support us in the years to come with this event and all our others,” he said.
