November 13, 2014
Deadlines for AU in Germany program and COBE in Taiwan are about to come. The final dates to sign for these programs are Dec. 1.
AU in Germany is a four-week summer program, in which students spend one week at AU taking classes and learning basic German. The next two weeks they will spend in Wittenberg, attending class sessions and cultural activities. The last week students will be travelling to Berlin and overnight excursion to Weimar, Leipzig, Dresden, Erfurt and Eisenach. Students can also travel on their own for one weekend of the trip.
Students can earn six credit hours of core classes on this trip, taking courses in aesthetics, social science and/or a natural science.
The second deadline that is coming is for the COE in Taiwan, which is Dec. 1. This program is directed to education majors. Students will be spending six weeks at Providence University in Taichung, Taiwan.
Students will have one intense Chinese classes in the morning, and Global pedagogy-schooling across borders, in which students are going to have around 20 hours of school placing.
According to Nate Myers, faculty director, this program helps students learn about diversity. “Students have a belief of what a good teacher does, what a good student does. I want to show them that not everybody shared that believe of a good teacher is or what a good student is,” said Myers.
“Students become more marketable and they become more comfortable talking to people from other cultures, no matter if they stay in Ohio they are going to work with people from other backgrounds, so having that comfort is going to help them in their future,” said Rebecca Parillo, director of global education.
