On April 1, 2015 Carlos Campo was announced as the 30th president of Ashland University.

The announcement came after a search by the university’s Board of Trustees.

Campo has worked in higher education previously, most notably as president of Regent University.

AU Board Chair Lisa Miller is confident in the selection.

“Dr. Campo is a proven, highly motivated and accomplished higher education professional with more than 25 years of exemplary experience, from professor to university president.”

Campo will replace William Crothers, who has been serving as interim president for one year while the board of trustees launched their search for the new president.

Campo and his wife, Karen, said that they were looking forward to coming to Ashland.

Campo reflected on his appointment at AU saying, “The Ashland University community blends excellence and tradition in such a way that reflected their commitment to quality and the individual. We are honored and blessed to become a part of Eagle Nation.”

Campo served as president of Regent University in Virginia Beach, Va., from August 2010 to October 2013. In his time there Campo worked to establish Regent University as one of the first universities in Virginia, and one of 22 nationally, to receive an “A” rating from the Association of College Trustees and Alumni. In addition to this, he worked to improve the financial condition of the university by developing an operational budget.

Before his presidency, Campo served as Chief Academic Officer and Provost at Regent from 2008 to 2010.

This is significant as it shows that Campo is experienced in conducting the day-to-day operations of a University.

From 2005 to 2008, Campo was at the College of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas, in the position of chief academic officer from 2007 to 2008 and as dean of the College of Arts and Letters from 2005 to 2007.

Most recently Campo has gained experience outsideof higher education. Over the past year he has worked as an educational consultant for The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

He also served as chair of the Alliance for Hispanic Education for the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference in Sacramento, Calif.

In this position Campo worked to improve education for Hispanic students; advocate for and work with national leaders on immigration reform; and serve as a spokesperson on educational issues within the Hispanic community.

Campo received his Ph.D. in English with an emphasis in Drama, his Master of Arts Degree in English (Cum Laude) and his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theater, all from the University of Nevada in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Campo also has many publications in the areas of academic papers, workshops and commentaries; as well as has numerous other special awards and accolades.
