On Oct. 16, Ashland University completed repairs to the section of sidewalk beside the Hawkins-Conard Student Center and along

King Road, reopening the area for pedestrian use by the end of Oct. 17.
The section was high on the university’s priority list due to its condition and location.
“The replacement prioritization was somewhat driven by the fact that there are new sections of sidewalk on each side of the section that was replaced,” said Rick Ewing, vice president of operations and planning.
Although the work was initially scheduled for completion before Homecoming, it was delayed due to the contractor’s limited availability. This is the last sidewalk repair project before winter, unless special unplanned circumstances arise.
The project was funded through the annual capital maintenance budget and is not part of the recent Dwight Schar-funded beautification project.
