In the 101st Ashland University Homecoming football game on Oct. 11, the Eagles cruised to a 38-14 victory over the Thomas More Saints.
After a fun week of homecoming festivities across campus, including Power Puff Football, Battleship, and a 5K run, the main event was found at Jack Miller Stadium. Ashland returned home for just their second home game of the season so far in their sixth game overall.
The Eagles put on a clinic to start the game, taking a 17-0 lead after the first quarter. The scoring began just 1:35 into the game with a one-yard touchdown run by junior tailback Ty’aris Stevenson. Just four minutes later at the 9:25 mark of the first, the Eagles took a 14-0 advantage after sophomore tight end Jonathan Merimee caught a 20-yard pass from redshirt senior quarterback Cameron Blair.
Ashland kept it going in the second period, scoring another touchdown three seconds into the quarter, off a one-yard run by Olando Kamara. With 6:22 left in the first half, Brock Henne caught a 17-yard pass from Blair to complete a five-play, 52 yard drive. The Eagles went into the locker room at halftime with a 31-0 lead.
After a couple of second half touchdowns by Thomas More and another touchdown by Stevenson, the Eagles finished up winning 38-14.
The Eagles are now 71-25-5 on Homecoming all-time. More importantly, Ashland remains in a tie for first place in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference with a 5-1 overall record, and an undefeated 4-0 league mark. They are tied with the Findlay Oilers for first place, whom they will not meet until Nov. 8 at Jack Miller Stadium.
For next week, Ashland will head to Columbus to take on the Ohio Dominican Panthers. Kickoff is set for noon.
