The 14-team Virtues Intercollegiate, hosted by Bowling Green at The Virtues Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio, saw the first 36 holes played on Sept. 29. Ashland University’s men’s golf team fit right in at the NCAA Division I-dominated event, as the Eagles finished Day 1 in ninth place. AU ended the day at 303-295—598. Notre Dame’s B Team were first (278-279—557), followed by Loyola-Chicago (288-285—573) and both Western Kentucky (285-289—574) and Butler (283-291—574). Sophomore Mark Pillar continued his strong campaign so far by ending the first day in a tie for 20th individually at 76-69—145. Pillar had seven birdies on Monday, including five in Round 2. The third and final round of the almost-entirely NCAA Division I Virtues Intercollegiate was played on Sept. 30 at the Virtues Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio, and Ashland University’s men’s golf team finished in ninth place in the 14-team field. At 303-295-304—902, the Eagles ended up topping D-I foes Bowling Green, Evansville, Mercyhurst, Detroit Mercy and Canisius.
Sophomore Mark Pillar, coming off medalist honors at Ferris State’s Midwest/Central Regional Preview Tournament on Sept. 15-16, tied for 18th at the Virtues, ending at 76-69-74—219, and with nine birdies.
