The Ashland Eagles football team picked up another win on Sept. 27 when they defeated the Northwood Timberwolves 21-13. This was a terrific all-around performance from the Eagles offense, defense, and special teams units.
On the defensive end, the Eagles allowed only 54 rushing yards and 246 yards overall to the Timberwolves.
Offensively, senior quarterback Cameron Blair went 18-for-22 for 159 yards and a touchdown, giving the ball to nine different receivers. Ashland’s running game had its best performance of the season so far, finishing with 170 yards and a touchdown on 41 attempts.
After both teams traded punts to begin the game, Northwood drove from midfield to end with a 30-yard field goal from kicker Drew Cady for the first points of the game. That Timberwolves score came with 8:01 left in the first quarter.
The Eagles then scored their points off a defensive spot late in the first. A Northwood punt got blocked by redshirt freshman
cornerback Damien Johnson Jr., which he then returned for 25 yards to give the Eagles a 7-3 lead with 1:05 remaining.
Ashland followed that up with an eight-play, 73-yard touchdown drive in the second quarter, with junior tailback Olando Kamara finishing off a 23-yard scoring run at the 9:28 mark of the second.
At halftime, the Eagles led 14-6 after another field goal from Cady. Ashland took a two-score lead with 3:57 left in the third when Blair found senior wide receiver Jent Joseph for a 19-yard touchdown.
The Timberwolves tried to make a late comeback. Quarterback Ethan Hamby ran three yards for a touchdown with 2:22 to go in regulation, but Northwood’s onside kick attempt was unsuccessful, giving the Eagles the victory 21-13.
With the victory, Ashland moves to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. They handed Northwood their first loss of the season, dropping the Timberwolves to 3-1.
Next up for Ashland is Oct. 4 at 5 p.m. on the road against the winless Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers, who sit at 0-4 on the 2025 season. For more on the Eagles football team, you can visit goashlandeagles.com.
