Ready to wrap up summer with some warm fall clothes?
Check out Downtown Ashland on Saturday Oct. 11, for the return of Ashland Mainstreet’s Flannel Fest.
With a goal to bring members of the Ashland community downtown, Sandra Tunnell, head of Ashland Main Street stated, “This is an easy event to participate in that’s fun and different.”
The rules for the day are simple; wear a flannel and shop at local stores. Each participating location will have varying discounts for those dressed in autumn themed attire.
One may wonder why flannels are the chosen clothing, and the answer is Ashland Main Street’s committee decided they wanted to do something in the fall that would bring people downtown to enjoy.
When discussing the possibilities someone mentioned flannels were a fun and a non-school or pumpkin theme. The group immediately latched onto the idea and started a game plan.
The idea was brought to the local store owners who decided to give it a try. After four to five years, it has become a “unique Ashland tradition.”

“It’s been super successful,” Tunnell stated. “And people really enjoy walking down Main Street in their flannels.”
In addition to the themed attire, it is also a DORA day.
For those unfamiliar, DORA days are when someone can get an acholic beverage with the purchase of a special cup and carry their drink around town with them in designated locations.
As Tunnell said, “it is a fun flannely day for all to enjoy, so don’t forget to check it out.”
