Both Ashland University’s men’s and women’s tennis teams opened their seasons on Sept. 19 against the Spring Arbor Cougars. Both teams took their first losses of the season in the opener.
In women’s singles, the Eagles lost 4-2. No. 3 sophomore Roberta Duran and No. 5 Maria Jemio walked away with wins for the Eagles.
In women’s doubles, the Cougars swept the Eagles, taking the point. The Eagle women lost 5-2.
On the men’s side for singles, they tied 3-3. No. 4 junior Douglas Cree, No. 5 sophomore Bernardo Duarte and No. 6 senior Reid Opel walked away with wins in their respective matches.
In a tie breaker, Cree and Duarte won their doubles match, but the Cougars defeated the Eagles in the other two doubles matches, making the score 2-1 with the Cougars taking the point. The Cougars defeated the Eagle men 4-3.
Both teams look to add their first win of the season on Sept. 26 at 1 p.m. at West Virginia Wesleyan.
