Every year on Sept. 17, the United States of America celebrates Constitution Day, commemorating the date in 1787 when the U.S. Constitution was originally signed, recognizing everyone born or naturalized in the United States as American citizens.
Ashland University’s Archer Library honors Constitution Day for the whole week of Sept. 15-19 with a display featured in the first-floor lobby.
The display featured multiple paper copies of the Constitution and encouraged students to take one. Additionally, it featured the URL of a website called “Ben’s Guide to the U.S. Government,” an interactive website featuring games designed to teach children about the U.S. Government.
“As librarians, we are deeply committed to intellectual freedom and the promotion of literacy,” said Acquisitions and Theological Librarian Sarah Thomas. She set up the display. “The Constitution, being the foundational document of our democracy, deserves to be accessible and understood by everyone,” she continued.
