On Tuesday, Sept. 16 Student Senate discussed many concerns regarding the student body.
Fred Geib, Director of Student Dining at Ashland University, joined the senate to discuss some of the students’ concerns regarding campus dining.
Some of the student concerns Geib addressed included a possible change to meal swipes, to make one meal equal one swipe and how well cooked the rotisserie chicken at Convo is.
“It’s all about food cost and what you’re doing with that swipe. We just financially can’t do it anymore,” said Geib, explaining why a meal swipe, which is currently $8.50, can’t feasibly cover the cost of a whole meal.
Geib further touched on inflation when it comes to food prices, specifically mentioning beef, as a reason that food prices on campus are unlikely to go down.
He also addressed the rotisserie chicken at Convo, which many students are concerned has been undercooked before.
“It’s the perception of, when you get down to that bone and you see red, it’s not raw,” he explained, clarifying that the rotisserie chicken is cooked through. He did, however, acknowledge that food has sometimes been undercooked at Late Night.
Mold was found on the first floor Andrews Hall, according to Officer of Finance and Facilities Drake Crumley.
“I have received photographic documentation indicating that there is indeed some level of mold present on the first floor of Andrews, in an excessive amount I would say,” said Crumley.
Additionally, candidates have been found for several vacant Student Senate positions, with the only contested position being that of the Freshman Vice President. Following the election, appointment of Senate positions will fall under Judicial Affairs.
