On the first floor of the Archer Library, in the XR Conference room, there is a new space for faculty and students to reserve to unwind.
The space is only meant for one person and can only be accessed by reserving a time slot online from the library’s website.
Archer Library Director, Patricia Frank said, “The goal is to offer a space within the library to meet the self-care needs of individuals who need a space for quiet, meditation, prayer and also the sensory needs of our neurodivergent patrons.”
The Archer Library teamed up with AU Wellness and Smetzer Counselling Center to make sure that students had the opportunity to get the resources they need.
“I thought it would be in the best interest of offering the full potential of the wellness space by having access to their resources because they are the people who have the expertise in wellness, both in counselling and just the center as well,” said Frank.

At the front desk, students can check out a fidget toy set, noise cancelling headphones and a meditation head band that can be used during their time in the center.
The room has a noise reducing egg chair, a sound machine, a desk with charging ports, plants and coloring books. All that can be used to create a peaceful space for students.
Students after leaving the wellness space will get emailed a survey where they can give feedback about the space and different items, they would like the room to have in the future.
