Over 100 Ashland University Delta Zeta alumnae came together on Aug. 29-30 to celebrate the 60-year anniversary of the AU chapter.
“It was really wholesome to be surrounded by so much love, and by the support of this huge group of women,” said Delta Zeta Theta Psi President, Lauren Bartlett.
The Theta Psi chapter of Delta Zeta was established at AU on Nov. 20, 1965.
Since then, the chapter has grown in sisterhood and shown pride in their six core values: friendship, curiosity, empowerment, belonging, generosity and community.
Their philanthropic efforts focus on speech and hearing impairments, as they partner with Starkey Hearing Foundation to raise funds that provide the gift of hearing people around the globe.
To celebrate the 60-year milestone, multiple events were held throughout the weekend.
On Friday, many alumnae came together in Lyceum in the Archer Library on campus. There, everyone got to catch up and chat over catered food.
Saturday included most of the events for the weekend.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony took place in the morning and was followed by a tour of the newly improved Delta Zeta suite in Clark Hall.
The renovation of the suite was a team effort.
“The university worked with the suite committee and all of their ideas and thoughts they had,” said Bartlett.
A lunch was then held in the John C. Myer Convocation Center, where the guests were surprised with pink and green deserts.
Current members of the sorority held campus tours which brought back many memories for the alumnae.
Later in the evening, everyone got the chance to sit down and talk until the candlelight ceremony, held in memory of the sisters that were lost.
The weekend concluded with a recitation of the alma mater and the Delta Zeta creed.
“It made me feel empowered,” said Bartlett.
“Seeing (alumnae) and all their love and passion for DZ, even 60 years later, it’s so crazy.”
The activities over the weekend really showed that Delta Zeta’s core values hold true with members long after their college years.
“It was really just shown through all the women this week, in the way they acted, in the way that they still love this chapter, and also each other,” said Bartlett.
