Ashland University is in the heart of a close community, home to several activities, local shops and businesses. These small businesses are a welcoming place for college students and people just touring the area.
They love showing off their products and giving more of an insight into the Ashland community the shops are built on.
Activities:
Freer Field is located on the opposite side of lot M. There are different paths to walk on, and you will normally see others enjoying the scenery. It is a good free activity to do with your friends when you just need some time outdoors.
Another good activity to check out is the Tin Can Chandelier, located at 1258 Franklin Ave. Here, you can spend your time painting pottery. They also have different art classes available, so if you’re interested, make sure to check out their website.
If you’re feeling bored on a weekend or just want to solve some puzzles, check out Masterminds Escape Room & Game Library located on 33 W main St. They have two different escape rooms: “The Dollmaker” and “Wizards of Westmaine”. They also have a game library where you can play any of the different board games in the room for just five dollars.
Shops:
Twisted Ivy is a design and gift shop located 68 W S St and is a great place to check out for different gifts for parents or if you want a piece of Ashland community to bring home with you. Owner Iva Hall named the shop after her late aunt and wanted to highlight other small businesses in the area.
“You support my small business; it supports their small business at the same time. It’s really nice,” said Hall.
Another store to check out is Fig & Oak, they are located at 100 W Main St. They are also a gift shop, and they donate a portion of every purchase that gets made. After you make a purchase, you are given a choice of three different charities that you can pick where your portion goes.
