On Tuesday, August 26 the Ashland University Student Wellness Team hosted “Take a ‘Paws’ with Pip” in the Hawkins-Conard Student Center, on the first floor near Eagle’s Landing.
This event, the first one of the new school year by the organization, allowed students to stop by outside Eagle’s Landing to pet Pip, a therapy dog, who will be visiting campus every other week on Tuesdays.
“It is extremely important just for new students, just to feel like they are comfortable and that they have a place and that they belong here and just making sure everybody feels loved coming back to school,” said President of the Student Wellness team Sarah Watson.
The event was overall a success, giving students a way to brighten their mood in the first week of classes.
“Dogs are really good at lowering our emotions and making us less stressed out, so it just relaxes people,” Pip’s owner Sarah Depew said.
The Student Wellness Team’s stated goals on their website are promotion of emotional, physical, social, environmental, occupational, spiritual and intellectual wellness, and there are several upcoming events they are hosting.
