On Sept. 4 at Davis & Elkins, Ashland University’s men’s soccer team had a lot of key contributions from new players in a 1-0 win. This is the Eagles’ first victory to open a campaign since the COVID-19 pandemic-induced 2021 spring season.
Ashland came out strong in the beginning of Thursday’s game when sophomore midfielder Lewis Hill made it 1-0 in the third minute lead, following a header on a cross from the opposite sideline by senior forward Rodri Jimenez.
It was Hill’s first goal as an Eagle in his first varsity game with Ashland.
The Eagles maintained that slim lead until Santiago Maiolo scored the tying goal for D&E on an assist from Hugo Fauli in the 60th minute.
Ashland would strike back in the 78th when senior forward Soshi Tanaka scored his first career collegiate varsity goal.
Sophomore goalkeeper Alvaro Boned saw action in his first game at Ashland on Thursday and came up with eight saves.
The 2025 home opener will take place at Ferguson Field on Sept. 7 at 1 p.m. vs. Millersville.
