Over the summer, Ashland University appointed 12 staff and faculty members were appointed into new positions.
“Wisdom is no respecter of hierarchy; I don’t care where you are in the organization, your insights matter,” said AU President Jon Parrish Peede while speaking to newly appointed staff at the All-Institutional Meeting to start off the new semester.
In the College of Arts and Sciences, Dan McDonald, MFA, associate professor of art, was selected as interim dean of the department, replacing Katherine Brown, Ph.D. McDonald also held the position during the 2021-22 academic year.

In the College of Business and Economics, Lance Kaltenbaugh, Ed. D., was named the interim dean.

Kaltenbaugh was serving as associate dean of COBE and will now replace Dan Fox, J.D.
Joshua D. Sumpter, D.Min., was named chaplain and executive director of the Office of Christian Ministry at AU.

The Writing and Communication Center announced that David Karl, M.A., was named as the new interim director of the program.
Slade Denman was named the new director of bands, while also completing his DMA in wind conducting at the University of North Texas.
On June 11, 2025, AU announced that six staff members were promoted into new leadership roles.
Shawn Orr, Ph.D., and Catherine Williams, M.Ed., have joined the Executive Leadership Team at AU, the highest leadership group at the university. Orr, the dean of Ashland, has taken on an additional role of senior advisor to the president for non-traditional learning. Williams has been serving as assistant provost of student success and is now the senior advisor to the president for student success.
Janet Edwards was promoted over the summer from controller to assistant vice president and controller.
Three AU staff members have been promoted from a director position to an executive director position. Cathy Britton, M.A. ’84, is now the executive director of student success for Correctional Education. Amy Clark, also an AU graduate, is now the executive director of planned giving. Mary Deloe, MBA, is the executive director of academic services for Correctional Education.
