Starting Sept. 2, Ashland University Fraternities and Sororities are going to start their rushing events for freshmen and other students who are considering joining Greek Life
Rushing for a sorority or fraternity helps students build a sense of community and allows them to get involved with different opportunities around campus.

Gabe Del Valle, director of fraternity and sorority life, said, “This is one of the closest tightened communities that you’ll find on campus, where they call it brotherhood for a reason, where these relationships go far beyond college.”
AU is home to four different sororities: Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Phi, Delta Zeta and Theta Phi Alpha.
These sororities strive to create a sisterhood and thrive on the day of friendship. It is about keeping an open mind to find the people who better you as a person.
“Recruitment isn’t about fitting into a mold; it’s about finding the place where you feel the most at home. Sorority life is all about finding your people! The ones who will support, encourage and grow with you throughout college and beyond,” said Kara Crum, president of AU’s Alpha Delta Pi sorority.
Rushing can seem like a scary event, but it can lead students into forming a relationship with others who are also going through the rushing process. Even if the students choose not to go through with joining a sorority, they will still have bonds with each other.
Lydia Ward, president of Alpha Phi, said, “Visit all chapters with an open mind and get excited to meet everyone. At the end of the day, you will end up where you are truly meant to be.”
At AU, there are three different fraternities: Kappa Sigma, Phi Delta Theta and Phi Kappa Psi.
Josh Serrato, the rush chair at Phi Kappa Psi said, “My advice for any freshman is to be the authentic person you are, the best version of yourself is always the best version! Ask questions to the different guys of the chapters like why they joined, or their favorite memories of their fraternity.”
It is important for students to remember that fraternity members went through the same recruitment process.
“I remember being uneasy about going over to someone’s house as a freshman; however, I think that the best decision I’ve made in my college career was walking over to the house that day. All that goes to say, give fraternity life a try — it could change your life for the better,” said Wyatt Jones, president of AU’s Phi Kappa Psi.
