New brick walls have been noticed by students on different corners of Ashland University’s campus. Most notably is the one planted at the intersection where Claremont Avenue, College Avenue and King Road meet.
These signs will conclude the elements that have been a part of the campus beautification initiative funded by Dwight Schar.
Some of the projects include renovation of outdoor convocation plazas, construction of the Lyceum Cafe and reconstruction of the academic corridor – or Avenue of the Eagles. A list of these projects can be found at Ashland.edu.
The campus beautification plan began in 2022 and is set to conclude in June, in time for students’ arrival back to school for the fall semester.
The Vice President of Operations and Planning, Rick Ewing said the idea for the new “Wayfinding and Branding Signage” on campus is to help pedestrians or vehicular users navigate campus more efficiently.
He said, “If you pull up to the intersection at King and Claremont, there’s going to be a sign that will direct you to points of interest like the Center for the Arts, Hugo Young Theatre, the Kate’s Gymnasium . . . It’s really to help folks find their way around campus who may not be familiar or are visiting for the first time.”
Along with the signage on corners, the element also includes branding and lettering on each building on campus. The University seal is being added to buildings as well as each respective name. Visitors can also expect more navigation tools such as directory maps inside of buildings and hanging signs on light posts.
These changes are already underway and can be seen on the way to class. For more visitor information, find the Community and Visitors page on Ashland.edu.
