Ashland University’s track and field teams, No. 10 in the country for women, competed at two different meets again April 18-19, one in Charlottesville, V.A. for the Virginia Challenge, and another in Otterbein, Ohio for Otterbein Twighlight.
On the first night at the Virgnia Challenge, it’s no surprise that senior Lily Dowdell took down another school record. This time, she set a new record in the women’s 1500-meter run with a time of 4:30.88, earning 11th place in the process.
New provisional marks were earned by many athletes for the 2025 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Pueblo, Colo. on May 22-24.
Starting off was sophomore Hailey Rios in the women’s 100-meter dash preliminaries, earning a new provo mark with a time of 11.76.
Senior Caden Morris improved his provo mark in the men’s long jump, placing fourth and jumping 7.75 meters.
Sophomore Leslie Pollock also improved her provo mark in the women’s hammer throw, also placing fourth and throwing 55.73 meters.
On day two of the Virginia Challenge, junior Garrett Baker turned in a new provo mark, finishing second place and vaulting 5.20 meters.
Senior Jacob Pielech placed twelfth in the men’s 400-meter dash with a time of 47.24. He also earned a new provo mark in the process.
To close out the meet in Charlottesville, the men’s 4×400 meter relay squad consisting of senior Colin Hunkele, junior Derrick Amapps, senior Noah Wood and Pielech placed third with a time of 3:10.35, which is also an improved provo.
At the Otterbein Twighlight on April 18, junior Isiah King earned a new provo mark in the men’s 110-meter hurdles, winning the event with a time of 14.35.
Senior Sarah Masuoka improved her provo mark in the women’s pole vault, winning with a vault of 3.94 meters.
Junior Abby Wheeler won the women’s high jump, jumping 1.69 meters.
Sophomore Kara Fields won the women’s 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.49.
Sophomore Ethan Browning won the men’s 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.72.
Junior Kennedy Flores won both the women’s hammer throw, throwing 52.74 meters and the women’s shot put with a throw of 13.09 meters.
Up next for the Eagles is the 15th annual Ashland Alumni Open from April 25-26 at the Dwight Schar Athletic Complex.
