ASHLAND, Ohio – The Ashland University Symphonic Band will present its final concert of the 2024-25 academic year, the annual Spring Band Concert, this Friday evening, April 25, at Hugo Young Theatre inside the Center for the Arts. The 7:30 p.m. concert is free and open to the public.
The program will consist of a series of familiar tunes, starting with “All the Earth and Air” by Tyler Grant, Bert Appermont’s “Colors for Trombone” which will feature AU senior trombone soloist Thor McDonald, and “Chorale and Shaker Dance” by John Zdechlik.
Following recognition of the AU senior band members, the second half of the concert will include C.E. Duble’s “Bravua,” “On This Bright Morning” by David Maslanka, Johan De Meij’s award-winning Symphony No. 1 from The Lord of the Rings (“Hobbits”) and the AU alma mater.
Also of note, there will be a reception after the concert to recognize Joseph Lewis, Jr.’s service to the university. Lewis has spent eight years as the director of the AU Eagle Marching Band and principle conductor of the AU Symphonic Band.
