The Ashland Marketplace is another way for Ashland University students to utilize their meal plan.
Accepting dining dollars, meal swipes and traditional forms of payment, this online grocery allows students to purchase fresh produce, high quality frozen meats, bakery products, and a wide variety of other items being offered at a competitive price.
The Ashland Marketplace was created around 8 years ago with the purpose of making grocery shopping easier for students.
There was an intention to make the online grocery into a physical grocery section either in Eagle’s Nest or lower convo, however this opportunity hasn’t been available for multiple reasons including lack of space.
To use the marketplace, students can go to the Ashland Marketplace website and register for an account. Once completed, students may select different items to purchase then set up a pick-up date and time.
Processing orders take around two to three days. Once ready, items can be picked up behind John C. Myers Convocation Center.
“It would be nice to offer delivery, we just have never been able to get to the point to have the staff to consistently do that,” said Fred Geib, the director of Dining Services. “But for pickup, a lot of students come in through the front doors through the dining hall, but there’s actually a sign on the backside of convo… it’s intended to be just drive up and pickup your grocery items.”
Geib explains that it’s beneficial for students living off-campus as well as those in the senior apartments for many reasons.
“You don’t really have to go too far,” said Geib. “We’re located on campus. It’s close. It’s fresh, we’re getting fresh items every single day. The proteins are all local, the produce is high quality. It’s just another way to utilize their meal plan.”
