On Tuesday, April 1, Student Senate met for one of the last times this semester. The student senators discussed several important campus topics.
The Student Senate election is coming up next week.
“Campaigning is going on right now for the election coming up…Voting is happening on Tuesday the 8th and the 9th so make sure [Ashland students] know that,” said Emilee Fletcher, current Chair of Judicial Affairs and candidate for vice president.
Currently the only contested positions are president and vice president, and there are two tickets running for the roles together: David Maloney and John Keim for president and vice president respectively and Aubrey Stepanik and Emilee Fletcher as president and vice president respectively.
Regarding the election, concerns were brought up about certain candidates’ posters being taken down, which directly violates the Student Handbook. While it was brought up that its unlikely candidates are trying to censor their opponents, there is a possibility students in the general population of Ashland are doing this independently, and a suggestion was made that the student body be sent an email making it clear that tampering with posters in any way is explicitly prohibited in the Student Handbook.
Applications for extending housing, which means staying on campus past 5 p.m. on May 3, are due April 25 by 8 a.m., and can be turned in through eRezLife. Summer housing applications are also due at the same time.
Baskets to be used for shopping in Eagle’s Nest have been implemented at the convenience store.
“We got an email from [Fred Geib]… ‘Baskets for the Nest have been delivered to Convo and we will get them to the Nest for immediate service,’” said Aidan Nayak, Student Senate President.
Additionally, a newly updated AU Bucket List, giving students a list of events and activities to participate in around the Ashland community while they are students, has been put up in the Center for the Arts.
Student Senate meets every Tuesday at 9:30 p.m. in the ABCD Conference Room of the Hawkins-Conard Student Center. For more information, visit its Instagram account @austudentsenate.
