The Ashland University Track and Field team opened their season on Saturday, March 29 at the Yellow Jacket Collegiate Open in Cedarville, OH.
The Eagles are off to a hot start, with four of them not only earning provisional marks for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships, but they also set new track and meet marks and won their respective events as well.
Sophomore Molly Winner won the women’s weight throw, throwing 61.14 meters.
Senior D.J. Duncan won the men’s 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.96.
Junior Derrick Amapps won both the men’s 100-meter dash with a time of 10.41 as well as the men’s 200-meter dash with a time of 20.94.
Sophomore Brianna Chenevey won the women’s 100-meter dash with a time of 11.61.
Continuining with the success, redshirt freshman Jennifer Patrick earned her provisional mark as well as won the women’s discus throw, throwing 47.12 meters.
Senior Caden Morris placed second in the men’s long jump, jumping 7.33 meters.
Fellow senior Kaylyn Barnette earned her provisional mark in the women’s hammer throw, throwing 55.60 meters.
Winner also earned her provisional mark in the women’s shot put, throwing 14.98 meters.
Senior Jacob Pielech won the men’s 400-meter dash with a time of 48.40, earning a new meet and track record in the process.
Assistant coach DaJuan Seward won the men’s long jump, jumping 7.38 meters and setting a new track and meet record in the process.
The following Eagles placed first in their respective events: junior Nate Slater in the men’s 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:47.05; senior Brock Janowicz in the men’s hammer throw, throwing 56.94 meters and junior Jade Avance in the women’s 400-meter dash with a time of 56.99.
The following Eagles placed second in their respective events: redshirt freshman Hayden Valenti in the men’s hammer throw, throwing 54.22 meters; junior Brandon Geist in the men’s 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:55.76; junior Abby Wheeler in the women’s high jump, jumping 1.63 meters and the women’s 4×100 relay squad consisting of sophomore Odessa Smith, Chenevey, senior Greta Barker and sophomore Hailey Rios with a time of 46.97.
The following Eagles placed third in their respective events: freshman Olivia Saylor in the women’s 400-meter dash with a time of 58.54; assistant Coach T.J. Skinner in the men’s 200-meter dash with a time of 21.26 and senior Kelsey Kinsley in the women’s shot put, throwing 13.59 meters.
The Eagles return to action on April 4-5 at Cincinnati’s Oliver Nikoloff Invitational.
