The Ashland University softball team played in a double hitter at the Deb Miller Field at the Archer Ballpark Complex on Friday, March 21 against Walsh University.
Game one started off slow, until the scoreless tie was broken in the bottom of the third inning when junior center fielder Ashley Veldheer doubled, stole third and scored on a throwing error.
After breaking the scoreless game, the Eagles would go on to score two more times on the Cavaliers during the bottom of the fifth inning an RBI ground out from senior designated player Cassidy Shaffer and a run-scoring double by sophomore catcher Delaney Keith.
The Eagles defense did their job as well, senior pitcher Bryn Grabowski pitched a complete game shutout, allowing six hits, striking out ten and walking one that led to her lowering her season earned-run average to 17.4.
Game one concluded at 3-0, which gave the Eagles the energy they needed going into game two to find their sixth consecutive win.
This game was a higher score as the Eagles won in a 7-1 decision.

In the bottom of the second inning the Eagles struck for the first two runs on the Cavaliers’ two-out error. Then, in the third inning the Eagles found four more with Keith delivering a RBI single, sophomore third baseman Sophia Martin adding a squeeze bunt and sophomore left fielder Maren Metikosh roping a two-run double.
For the first and only time of the day, Walsh got on the board with a sac fly in the sixth inning.
Exciting things are approaching for the Eagles with a first game stolen base junior Danielle Robbins now has 55 with eight away from the program record (63) held by former Eagles Sunny Litteral.
This match moved the Eagles to 14-8 overall and 4-0 in conference play.
The Eagles’ next few matches are conference matches against the following teams: Cedarville University, Kentucky Wesleyan and Thomas More. The Eagles full schedule can be accessed on goashlandeagles.com.
