The Ashland University lacrosse team faced off against the Grand Valley State Lakers on Saturday, March 15 in a home matchup.
The game was close, but the Lakers came out on top with a final score of 13-11. This loss leaves the Eagles with a record of 3-4 and the Lakers with a record of 5-1.
The Eagles are 5-0 all time against the Lakers; however, this game was the closest they have ever been to beating the Lakers.
In the second quarter, the Eagles closed the score to within a goal of each other, leaving it at 5-4. They continued this streak in the third quarter, leaving the score 7-6. They then scored three straight goals in the last quarter.
The Lakers found a small 27-25 shots advantage. The turnovers were also close with the Eagles finding 17 and the Lakers having 16.
Many Eagles players had solid performances during this game – despite the loss.
Junior attacker Ashley Fisher led the Eagles’ offense with three goals and four assists for a total of seven points. Freshman midfielder Tori Wanat followed with four points, three goals and one assist. Finally, junior goalkeeper Annie Duncan made an impressive eight saves.
The Eagles will compete next at Ferguson Field on Tuesday, March 18 at 2 p.m. in a game rescheduled from February 22.
