At the Student Senate meeting on Feb. 18, concerns were raised about the secrecy of the Activities, Budget, and Chartering Committee (ABCC).
Aidan Haggard raised the issue in senate of the ABCC meetings.
On the ABCC committee, there are four members, which are sworn to secrecy about the use of its funds.
There is concerns of favoritism over which campus organizations get funds.
“I think the problem is that the person who’s in charge of fundraising is also in charge of the club that gets the most amount of money every year,” said Aidan Nayak, executive president of Senate, about Liz Keller, faculty advisor of the Campus Activities Board (CAB).
Currently, there is no campus rule explaining why the committee must keep its use of funds secret.
The best way to work towards change, according to Aidan Nayak, is to write a resolution.
“A resolution is the best statement that we can make on what we have a problem with,” Nayak said.
Additionally, several Senate members shared ideas for events for Spirit Week, which will occur the week of March 16-22.
Student Senate hopes campus can bring several events, whether known nationally or local, to campus for students.
It is a new concept for the spring, and is a series of events occurring a week in mid-March to unite students on campus.
Other points addressed at the meeting included that courses are still able to be made pass/fail, and students wanting to do this should change their grading system by Spring Break,
The course catalog for Fall 2025 is now available for Ashland University students.
