Steven Cole and Andrew Bailey from the Ashland Theological Seminary visited the Student Senate meeting Feb. 11.
They discussed the Smetzer Counseling Services available free of charge to anyone needing them in the Ashland community.
They specified that while the counseling center is in relation to the seminary, it isn’t necessarily religious, only applying spirituality to its counseling services when requested by patients.
“We are not spiritual counseling, so we’re not going to act like a pastor or priest in how we do it, we are clinical counselors first that see the availability of spirituality as a good way to help in that counseling process, but by no means does that have to be the main way we approach it,” explained Bailey, a clinical counselor at the center.
Additionally, fall 2025 housing applications close Friday at 8 a.m. Ty Bowden, Chair of Residence Life, explained that students need to specify whether they’re seeking on or off-campus housing, as well as fill out a form should they want a specific roommate beforehand.
Google Drive is completely switching to read-only on Friday, so students wanting to save important documents to their Microsoft accounts should do so before then.
Student Senate meets every Tuesday at 9:30 p.m. in the ABCD Conference Room of the Student Center. For more information, visit its Instagram page @austudentsenate and for information on more events and organizations on campus, visit Engage Ashland.
