Majesky takes over as strength and conditioning coach
October 3, 2015
Ashland University graduate Malcolm Majesky has been hired as the second strength and conditioning coach in the Eagle athletic program’s history. He is replacing the position of A.G. Kruger, who accepted the oportunity of becoming the throwers coach at the University of South Dakota.
After reviewing applications from over 60 candidates from around the country, Athletic Director Al King decided on Majesky, whose experience separated him from other candidates.
“He was an NCAA Division II athlete, he knows the stresses, he knows about working at a small school like this,” said King.
After graduating from Ashland in 2010, he stayed two more years to complete his master’s degree.
Finishing his career at Ashland, Majesky became an athletic conditioning specialist at The Ohio State University as well as being named the head strength and conditioning coach at Ohio Dominican University and Olentangy Orange High School.
Majesky also spent time as a strength and conditioning intern with the Cleveland Browns.
According to Majesky, having a diverse background will help him work with Eagle athletes going forward.
“It helps because I’ve worked with a wide variety of athletes,” said Majesky. “I’ve worked for the Cleveland Browns and I’ve worked at the high school level too, so I’ve been exposed to a lot of different athletic abilities.”
Because A.G. Kruger was the first strength and conditioning coach in the history of AU, he had to design the strength and conditioning program.
Majesky will be continuing many of the things which Kruger first implemented, but will also be adding some of his own ideas.
“Malcolm and I have been talking about some things which can expand this position,” said King. “Maybe some educational programs he can bring to our student athletes, maybe some new training programs, and maybe some different perspectives.”
Majesky also expressed interest in creating an internship position or graduate assistant in strength and conditioning at Ashland.
According to Majesky, he wants to share his knowledge with those who are willing to learn more.
“I want to teach people about the weight room and different lifting techniques, and just educate them on what’s out there,” said Majesky.
In addition to working with a wide variety of athletes, Majesky was also an athlete himself.
During his time as a student as Ashland, he also was a thrower on the track and field team under Head Coach Jud Logan.
He competed in both the discus and weight throw during his four years on the team.
Both Majesky and King believe that Majesky’s history with the Eagles makes his the perfect fit for Ashland and the athletic program.
Going forward, Majesky said one of his biggest goals is to help Ashland be recognized as having a great strength and conditioning program for their student athletes.
“I’d like to put Ashland on the map by being a place not only with successful sports teams, but with a great strength and conditioning knowledge and base,” said Majesky.
