Hailey Struckman was hired in August after graduating from AU in 2023 and fell in love with Ashland. She decided she wanted to continue living in this small quiet town after being a resident assistant for two years,
Struckman said, “That kind of put my foot in the door with the res life coordinator position. I loved being an RA, and I was like, well, I might as well just try it out, and do a step above an RA”
Being an RLC, Struckman oversees RA in Clayton, Myers and the Senior Apartments. She also oversees the RA’s crisis response; room changes and community building.
Struckman said, “I love engaging with students getting their feedback, planning events to get them out of their dorm rooms and then helping them enjoy campus life.”
Stuckman was an RA for the freshman dorms where students were eager to come to community building activities.
Now that she is overseeing the upperclassmen dorms and Clayton, not many students want to participate in these activities.
Struckman said, “My biggest goal is to find ways to make Ashland more appealing and fun for upperclassman students, so that they’re not just hiding out in their rooms and figuring out what Ashland has to offer.”
Her goal for res life is to get rid of the stigma around res life that they are just trying to get students in trouble. Struckman expressed that res life’s main goal is to ensure students are having a fun and safe time in school.
Struckman is using this year as a tester, to see what activities students in her area might be interested in. This is her plan before she leaves for maternity leave in March.
Struckman is excited to return next year, to continue her goals of making students more engaged on campus.
