The Ashland University men and women’s swim & dive teams competed at two home tournaments on Friday Jan. 24 and Saturday Jan. 25.
The teams opened Friday competing against Bluffton University in a dual meet where the women won 178-13 and the men 172-22, both huge margins for the teams.
Both Eagle divers, sophomore Riley Hunt and junior Joey Lenczyk, won on Friday evening in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives. Hunt received 255.15 points in the 1-meter and 301.85 points in the 3-meter while Lenczyk received 271.05 points in the 1-meter and 296.25 points in the 3-meter where he earned a school record.
Great Midwest Athlete of the Week, sophomore Payton O’Toole, won the women’s 50-yard freestyle in 25.41 seconds.
O’Toole also competed alongside sophomores Anna Ramsier and Delaney Spradlin, and freshman Julia Reed in the women’s winning 200 free relay with a time of 1:45.14.
The team also received a plethora of other victories on Friday from the following women Eagles: freshman Brooke Patel in the 1,000 free (11:14.29); Reed in the 200 free (2:10.29); freshman Stephanie Holubetz in the 200 individual medley (2:23.50); junior Mary Kate Prall in the 100 butterfly (1:03.58); sophomore Emma Stoll in the 100 free (1:01.53); sophomore Juliana Pignato in the 100 backstroke (1:03.25); senior Colleen Cox in the 500 free (5:55.33); and sophomore Blair Pichola in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.46).
On the men’s side the following Eagles earned victories: senior Robin Falk in the 100 free (10:54.48); freshman William Collins in the 200 free (1:51.57); junior Cole Huebner in the 50 free (22.58 seconds); sophomore Evan Kemp in the 200 IM (2:01.17); junior Andrew Oates in the 100 free (56.55 seconds); junior Ayden Mason in the 100 free (51.48 seconds); freshman Grant Wallery in the 100 back (1:02.97); sophomore Colin Pham in the 500 free (4:58.22); and junior Jack Elliot in the 100 breastroke (1:00.87).
Relay’s earning victories consisted of the following Eagles: the 200 medley relay consisting of Stoll, sophomore Rachel Stancheck, Pignato, and freshman Jaidyn Jordan (2:03.07); men’s 200 medley relay consisting of Pham, sophomore Grant Brown, fifth-year Josh Hagan, and Collins (1:44.08); finally, the men’s 200 free relay consisting of Hagan, junior Josh Bachinsky, Brown and Huebner (1:35.57).
The Eagles then spent Saturday celebrating their seniors for Senior Day while also getting another victory over Allegheny University.
O’Toole, and the following women, found more victory on Saturday in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:21.32) and the 200 individual medley (2:20.78). Spraldin in the 200 free (2:08.29) and 100 backstroke (1:05.83). Colleen Cox in the 50 free (25.80) and 100 breaststroke (1:13.22). Finally, Hunt in the 1-meter (402.80) and 3-meter (429.70) dives.
The following women also earned victories: Pignato in the 100 butterfly (1:02.42); Tomita in the 100 free (56.05); and Reed in the 500 free (5:40.96).
On the men’s side for individual wins are Kemp in the 200 free (1:46.84) and 100 back (55.51); junior Jason Basile in the 1,000 free (10:29.31) and 500 free (5:00.20); finally, Lenczyk in the 1-meter (397.50) and 3-meter (433.15) dives.
The following men also earned victories: Falk in the 50 free (22.39 seconds); Collins in the 200 IM (2:04.62); Huebner in the 100 fly (54.45 seconds); Pham in the 100 free (48.37 seconds); and Kumal in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.38).
Relay’s earning victories were the women’s 200 medley (1:58.30) consisting of Tomita, Cox, sophomore Peyton Meyer, and senior Holly Kraemer; men’s 200 medley (1:38.70) consisting of Pham, junior Nick Girz, Falk, and Hagan; women’s 200 free relay consisting of Pignato, O’Toole, Cox, and Kramer; finally, men’s 200 free (1:29.37) consisting of Girz, Oates, Falk, and Hagan.
The Eagles will next dive into two more invites before conferences in Clarion, PA and Youngstown, OH where they’ll compete in the Hrovat Diving Invitational on Friday Jan. 31 and the Youngstown State Invite on Saturday Feb. 1.
