The Ashland University wrestling team competed at the 45th Annual Midwest Classic hosted by the University of Indianapolis on Saturday Dec. 14 to Sunday, Dec. 15.
The Eagles squeaked by Kutztown University, to take home 15th place as a team out of the 43 teams who competed.
This marks the team’s best invite at the Midwest Classic since placing 11th in the 2021 season.
Some of the individual standouts from the meet being redshirt junior Nate Barrett.
Barett is the 10th-ranked wrestler in the NCAA Division II at 165 pounds, earning a 4th-place finish at the Midwest Classic.
He lost the third-place match against Jack Haskin from Lake Erie.
Another placement by the Eagles being 197 pounds, senior Kaine Morris, who also earned fourth place. Morris lost the third-place matchup to Nicholas Johnson from Glenville State.
The Eagles head into midseason with a strong finish to their first part.
AU wrestling will travel to Kentucky for a tri-meet on Sunday, Jan. 12, when they face Kentucky Wesleyan and Lake Erie.
