The Ashland University women’s soccer team competed in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) regular-season championships on Saturday Nov. 16 against Northwood University.
The Eagles started competition strong; within the first ten minutes Eagles Senior Forward McKinley Mendenhall assisted by Senior Forward Tori Haggit scored against Timberwolves Sophomore Goalkeeper Lindsay Jacob.
The Timberwolves attempted to respond to the Eagles goal, during the 16–minute Timberwolves Redshirt Senior Brooke Honeycutt’s shot at Eagles Senior Goalkeeper Maddie Dolenga; however, failed to connect to the goal.
The first half continued with neither team; scoring on one another, Eagles coming out the first half prevailing over the Timberwolves.
The Eagles entered the second half scoring early on the Timberwolves;, within the first two minutes, Sophomore Midfielder Haley Hightower, assisted by Senior Defender Hope Evans, scored on Timberwolves Lindsay.
The Eagles continued on their goal streak during the 68th minute. The Eagles made their third and final goal on the Timberwolves courtesy of Mendenhall with an assist by Haggit and Senior Midfielder Merrik Mihalek.
The Timberwolves Senior Midfielder Addyson Gorzelski would find their one and only goal of the game with less than 15-minutes left in the second half.
The game concluded with a final score of 3-1, Eagles earning the G-MAC Tournament Championship title over the Timberwolves.
“It means a lot to them,” Paulino said in a press release. “There’s not too many games left, and hopefully, we have a month left. But you could see the determination and the conversation that was happening constantly between the group.””
This win adds onto the previous two conference tournament titles the program has one since joining the Great Midwest four years ago.
