On Sunday, Nov. 17, Ashland University’s Fraternity and Sorority life put on its annual Lip Sync Battle performance. The event took place in The Hugo Young Theater with all ticket funds raising money for St. Jude’s Hospital.
The two fraternities, Phi Kappa Psi and Phi Delta Theta performed while Kappa Sigma opted out this year. Three of the AU sororities also performed; Alpha Phi, Alpha Delta Pi and Delta Zeta. Theta Phi Alpha also opted out of the event this year.
The battle was hosted by Grace Leslie and Parker Englerth, who planned the event.
The competition was judged by Class President Aidan Nayak, Professor of Psychology Dr. Diane Bonfiglio, General Manager of Dining Operations Fred Geib and Assistant Professor of Fashion Merchandising Allison Rossi.
Alpha Delta Pi, or better known as ADPI, danced onstage firstly in animal prints as their theme was centered around the jungle. This group won, “Best Dance Moves.”
Delta Zeta, or DZ, cured the audience of “Bieber Fever” as they lip-synced to Justin Bieber songs, old and new. The group wore outfits reminiscent of the singer himself. In lieu of this, DZ won, “Best Costumes.”
Phi Delta Theta, or Phi Delt, performed dance moves and lip-syncing with their summery theme. This group won another superlative of, “Best Dance Moves.”
Alpha Phi, or APHI, harnessed the audience with lassos as they took the stage as cowgirls. They lip-synced to assorted country songs.
Lastly, Phi Kappa Psi, or Phi Psi, threw it back to 2020, when the world was struck by Tik Tok trends. The fraternity danced to reminiscent quarantine songs and won, “Best Performance.”
The 2024 sorority winner of the Lip Sync Battle turned out to be Alpha Phi, while the 2024 fraternity winner was Phi Psi.
“It’s a fun time for all the sororities and fraternities to get together,” said Delta Zeta member, Lauren Bartlett. “It’s fun to just watch each other dance and just be onstage in a fun environment while also getting to donate money to St. Jude’s.”
