The Ashland University men’s golf team competed at the Intercollegiate at Nemacolin hosted by Findlay University on Monday Oct. 21 to Tuesday Oct. 22.
The men finished day one on Monday Oct. 21 tying for fifth alongside Hillsdale University but coming ahead Tiffin University.
Individually, junior Carter Mishler finished with six birdies going 2-under par allowing for him to tie for sixth on day one.
Tailing behind Mishler with seven birdies were freshman Charlie Fish tying 18th with 3-over par and freshman Shaun Mazzalupi with 5-over par.
Then, freshman Mark Pillar tied for 35th place with 10-over par and six birdies and finally senior Matthew McMullen tied for 35th place with 10-over par and five birdies.
The Eagles then finished the remainder of the tournament on Tuesday Oct. 22 to end their fall non-championship season.
Junior Carter Mishler finished the tournament tying for fourth place at 69-74-69—212 with one eagle and ten birdies.
Following behind Mishler was freshman Charlie Fish tying 23rd with ten birdies and Shaun Mazzalupi tying for 28th place with nine birdies.
Senior Matthew McMullen placed 32nd with nine birdies and freshman Mark Pillar tied 42nd with eight birdies.
The Eagles season best was at the Doc Spragg Invite where they placed second of 19 teams.
They’d also find Eagles with individual bests at meets, such as senior Matthew McMullen made history at Malone-Glenmoor where he recorded the lowest individual score in program history (201).
Freshman Charlie Fish would also make history at the same invite where he recorded the second individual score in program history (210).
The team would find themselves with the lowest total in program history (846).
They’d also find themselves with high rankings within the country and region that gives the team a good outlook going into their spring season.
“We finished the fall campaign ranked 41st in the country and 7th in our region,” Head Men’s Golf Coach Dennis North said. “With 10 teams making the NCAA from our region, we’re in a great place heading to the spring.”
The Eagles will return during the Spring in March to take on championship play and hopefully play off of the success of their fall play.
“This winter, we will continue to work hard in our indoor facility. We look forward to improving this winter and we’ll be prepared when our first tournament is played in March,” North said.
