The Ashland University athletics program announced their new Assistant Director of Compliance and Student Planning – Annie Roshak.
Roshak is a former Eagle who found herself leaving her mark on AU athletics during her time playing on the women’s basketball team. More recently, she was announced as the 37th Student Athlete of the Year alongside Football Tony Pannunzio.
Roshak has made quite a lasting impression on AU Athletics, so it was no doubt the athletics department had her in mind to be added to the faculty.
“I think it has been a position that Al has wanted to see introduced for a little while now,” Roshak said. “Compliance is a big job especially with the amount of student athletes that we have, so when he brought the idea to me, I was all in.”
The big one is just making sure all student-athletes are eligible with the NCAA,” Roshak said. “Along with that it will entail approving practice and competition hours for teams, monitoring the transfer portal, and meeting with student athletes and coaches to ensure they are up to date on compliance rules and regulations.”
Outside of ensuring that student athletes are eligible and assisting with their respected programs, Roshak will assist in the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC).
SAAC is a student-athlete led committee that offers input on NCAA rules, regulations, and policies that affect student-athletes.
“I will also assist in SAAC and help design programming for student athletes in a number of areas including leadership, life after college athletics, and preparing for entry into the job market.”
Roshak finds that her goal in serving in this position is for her and her coworkers to help student-athletes, especially in the age of name, image, and likeness (NIL).
“The hope is that Tim and I form a smooth system that allows us to ensure we are operating at a high level of compliance and additionally help student athletes and coaches in the realm of NIL,” Roshak said. “This is a relatively new thing that is beginning to affect division 2 athletes as well, so we are working to stay on top of that and help if that is something our student athletes are interested in taking advantage of. “
Roshak is thankful for the opportunity to come back to AU athletics as a staff member. She founds she has a deep love and appreciation for the program and is excited to pursue excellence on the other side of things.
“I am super thankful for Al King and President Pedee for trusting me with this position and all the work they put in to get it approved as well as all they do to help students and the University thrive,” Roshak said.
