The Ashland University women’s soccer team competed against the Kentucky Wesleyan College team on Thursday Oct. 24.
This game marked a monumental moment for the Eagles as they found themselves taking down the Panthers in an 8-0 decision. The Eagles haven’t found themselves in an 8-0 finish since Sept. 9, 2001, against Charleston West Virginia.
The Eagles wasted no time to score on the Panthers because within the first five minutes the Eagles McKinley Mendenhall scored on the Wildcats with an assist by Hope Evans and Ella Schneider.
The Eagles kept the momentum going because six minutes later during the ninth minute the Eagles Schneider scored with assistance from Eagles Dani Hicks.
The Eagles kept at going at the Panthers as they scored once again during the 15th minute courtesy of Eagles Hicks with an assist by Clara Richardson.
Eagles Merrik Mihalek would then score three minutes after Hocks, unassisted, allowing the Eagles to find their fourth goal.
Their second-to-last goal came from Eagles Sydney McMillan, who had an assist from Natalie Miskerik.
The Eagles didn’t let up on the Panthers as they would score on them for a sixth time and final time during the first half. Eagles Allison King was assisted by Audrey Kalmar.
“Our goal was to win both halves and we were able to do that,” Head Women’s Soccer Coach Cayleb Paulino said.
The Eagles would enter the second half against the Panthers up four to nothing.
The Panthers would put up more of a fight during this half as they attempted a total of two shots, two more than they did during the first half.
The Eagles, however, would continue dominating over the wildcats as during the 57th minute Eagles Ella Schneider would score on the Wildcats with an assist by Mendenhall.
The final shot of the game would come from the Eagles Emily Pate with an assist by Sabrina Trapani.
The game would conclude with the Eagles winning 8-0 over the Panthers.
The Eagles found themselves sitting at 12-1-1 overall and 9-0-1 in G-MAC play along with their eighth straight victor
“Great start to the week going 1 and 0 and now we have to be prepared for Lake Erie,” Paulino said.
