Verizon is upgrading the wireless network equipment installed at the rooftop of the Archer Library to improve the service.
Installation is being done by Axiom Wireless, a wireless construction company, based in Magnolia, Ohio.
The construction started on Wednesday, Oct. 9, and plans to be fully completed by the end of the month, when lacking antennas are delivered.
“We only had four of the eight antennas come in, so when they do come in, finally, we’re going to have to come back and swap them out,” said Tyler Lesman, Axiom Wireless crew member.
According to Axiom’s website, its services include Complete 5G upgrades, maintenance and repairs for all carriers.
Ashland University has a long-term lease with Verizon and carries no operational or financial responsibility for the work if the company stays within the agreements.
“Verizon has the right to update and change their equipment as they deem necessary. The University is required to make reasonable accommodations for this work. We do not have any information on what is being done or why,” said Rick Ewing, AU vice president of Operations and Planning.
