From Monday Oct. 14 to Tuesday Oct. 15 the Ashland University Eagles Men’s Golf Team played in the Doc Spragg Fall Invite, hosted by the Findlay University Oilers.
The Eagles placed second out of 19 teams, falling to Grand Valley State University; however, they would edge out the team that hosted the invitational, the Oilers, by four strokes.
The top Eagle on the player leaderboard for this invitational would be Junior Carter Mishler. Similar to his overall team finish, Mishler finished second among the players, with going 10 under par.
Mishler explained his strategy during invitationals.
“I want to hit my ball off the tee and into the greens to give myself the best opportunities possible,” Mishler said.
For the men’s team next invitational, he is going into it with confidence.
“I’ve played in this event both my freshman and sophomore year, so I feel like I know the golf course well,” Mishler said.
Not only does Mishler is feeling confident, but the whole team is also starting to gain confidence. The Eagles have been improving upon each invitational throughout the season. Starting from sixth place, then fourth place and then climbing up to third place.
“Our team is really young. We brought in 8 freshman this year and 3 of them are in our starting lineup,” Mishler said. “I think the main reason we are getting better and better is our freshman who are traveling are gaining more and more experience as we play and compete in more events.”
The next invitational for the Eagles is the Nemacolin Intercollegiate Invitational from Monday Oct. 21 to Tuesday, Oct 22.
