The Ashland University Center for Nonviolence is an organization with the goal of “raising awareness, thinking and acting creatively and encouraging open discussion on issues of peace and social well-being,” according to its Engage page’s description. “When it comes to conflict, we ask the question, ‘What else can we do?’” it further says.
The center has several upcoming events and activities planned. There will be a book club in the ABCD conference room of the Student Center at noon on Sept. 27, for a book titled “Not A Drop To Drink” By Mindy McGinnis, according to Elizabeth Buttil, the assistant director of the Center for Nonviolence.
She further said, “We will have the author come here. The author comes to campus on Oct. 10, and that event is at 5 p.m. in the Library Lecture Hall. The author will be talking about the research she did for the book.”
Buttil further added that the organization would co-sponsor the event with the Ashland Public Library, the Archer Library and the Friends of the Ashland Public Library.
In addition to this, a second book club will be on “Oct. 25. That book is called ‘Solito’,” said Buttil. Solito is written by Javier Zamora.
“Our speaking event is on Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. in Ronk Lecture Hall, and that is with Jake Newsome, and the tile of the talk is ‘In the Shadow of the Pink Triangle: Holocaust History and LGBTQ+ Rights Activism,’” she continued.
Some of Jake Newsome’s books will also be available at the event.
