The Ashland University Women’s Basketball team hosted their 2nd annual 3v3 tournament with women’s basketball alumnae on Saturday, Sept. 14.
The tournament not only consisted of multiple 3v3 tournaments with women’s basketball alumnae, but also a open practice, meet the ’24-’25 women’s basketball team, kids zone, and live auctions.
This event was originally a golf outing; however, it has now shifted to a more family friendly event where alumnae and fans can support the team while also allowing for younger children to participate as well.
“The biggest thing that for me I was really passionate about providing opportunities for our alum to come back and have a good time,” Head Women’s Basketball Coach Kari Pickens said. “While also doing things for the kids and the community which is another passion.”
The alumnae featured during this event and the 3v3 games consisted of the following women: Karlee (Pireu) Denbow, Jodi (Johnson) Philips, Renee Holt, Kari (Daugherty) Pickens, Kaci (Finfock) Matthews, Lindsay (Tenyak) Berger, Lacy (Romaine) Drake, Lindsey Gaut, Micki (Kuns) Hula, Annie Roshak, Erin Daniels, Savaya Brockington, and Jenna Kotas.
As alumnae participated in tournaments, representing teams gray, orange, yellow, and white, there were live auctions hosted during the midst of the event. The items auctioned off consisted of traveling with the team, golf outing, massage gun, purple cowboy boots, and other items.
Attendees were also encouraged to make donations to aid in the women’s basketball team and funding the program.
“All of the funds we raise go into our fastbreak booster club which helps us buy additional gear for the girls and helps us on road trips,” Pickens said.
The event will continue to be an annual event to help the women’s basketball team and bring the community together.
“If people want to come that’s how I feel,” Pickens said. “They can watch a practice, they can watch alum play, they can bring families and kids so they can have a good time too.”
Fans will be able to see the women’s basketball team play their first home game against Davenport University on Friday, Nov. 15.
