The Ashland University Eagles Men’s Soccer team played against the Gannon University Golden Knights on Wednesday, Sept. 11.
This game marks the second home game for the Eagles this season and is where they’d suffer their second loss at home.
The Eagles were coming in the competition 1-2 while the Golden Knights were coming in 2-1.
The competition began fiercely between the Eagles and Golden Knights; however, it wasn’t until the 25th minute that the scoreless game was broken by the Golden Knights Per Kristian Lauvstad.
The competition continued, neither team scoring for the rest of the first half.
The second half began when the Golden Knights scored yet again allowing for the contest to be 2-0 during the first minute.
The Eagles continued playing fiercely, with Goalkeeper Ty Bowden making six saves in one night and both teams taking 15 shots each; the Golden Knights would score two more times during the 79th and 80th minute of the game.
Head Coach, Nicholas Roberts, found that the game was a loss when the team conceded the second goal 30 seconds into the second half.
Before the season began, Roberts found that over the past few years, the team’s loss ratio at home was high; however, this doesn’t aid in any doubt regarding the team and their efforts.
“With that said, you know, I think we got a good team I think we’ll be fine,” Roberts said. “We have a tendency to start slow but it’s disappointing to lose a game 4 and 0.”
The Eagles will return home once again to play against the Findlay Oilers on Thursday, Sept. 19.
